Purpose.

The main goal of this project of landslide hazard zonation (LHZ) is to develop multi-temporal landslide inventory maps, landslide susceptibility maps, and landslide hazard zonation maps per landform to provide standardized methods of mapping that support governmental authorities for hazard mitigation and planning in Mexico. These products are to be used as a screening tool to guide and assist field personnel. There will be instances where local conditions are more or less stable than identified. In every instance, specialized personnel needs field verification of the actual ground conditions to dictate the course of action. The information developed by LHZ project consists of: a map of landslides, a map of susceptibility, a map of landslide hazard areas per landform, and a report detailing the landslide hazard findings for watershed unit. As each watershed is completed, the information is available to the public through the LHZ completed Projects website at the Institute of Geografía, UNAM and the landslide inventory and hazard zone GIS data is available upon request. Also, we provided LOGISNET program and its tutorial in order to allow the users to modeling landslides. The system is fully operational for models handling an enhanced cartographic–hydrologic model (SINMAP) and multiple logistic regression. For more information contact Dr. Gabriel Legorreta Paulín.
